Amwell - Guidelines for WCAG Conformance

One of the most important requirements that we had to keep in mind when we were designing and building the new website was to keep a strong focus on following the guidelines for Web Content Accessibility. For the website to be classified as conformant with WCAG 2.0, 2.1, or 2.2 at Level AA, it had to be compliant with a number of technical and design requirements, such as color contrast, color combinations, and font sizes.

The Analysis

Here is the full analysis and the guidelines that I created specifically to redesign the website in accordance with the objectives.

Project Details

Type: Website Redesign, UX / UI

Role: Lead UX / UI Designer, Project Manager

Year: 2024

Tools: Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel, Word, Jira and Teams

Project Overview: The goal of this project was to review test and create clear guidelines for WCAG Conformance.

Challenge: The biggest challenge for this project was that the original colors selected as the main brand colors had limitations when it came to color usage and combinations in order to have the website following compliance.

Approach: Review the ratio percentage of all the colors. Test multiple color tones and compared how the translation of colors will influence print and digital assets across the company.

Color Palette Analysis and Test

For this part of the process I created a presentation that could explain how the color ratio and color combination had a big impact into how the assets needed to be designed. I gave this presentation to directors, managers and developers as these guidelines needed to be implemented by their teams as well.
